Emergency Management Director Josh Phillips briefed Duchesne County commissioners July 21 on wildfire activity in the Uinta Basin and on draft mutual‑aid agreements with municipalities.
Phillips reported eight smoke checks and four false alarms in the county, and said an illegal fire in Fruitland became uncontrolled. He noted the county burn ban remains in effect. Engine 145 was assigned to the Deer Creek fire, and Engine 156 along with Tabiona's fire chief were assigned for a 16‑day Monroe fire assignment. Phillips also discussed equipment needs and an addition to the Fruitland Fire Station.
Phillips presented draft Fire Protection Agreements for Tabiona, Myton, Roosevelt, Duchesne and Altamont and said additional changes are needed; he said the agreements will be taken to the County Council of Governments meeting on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., for discussion with the municipalities.
The briefing placed current fire activity and mutual‑aid planning on the commission record and scheduled intergovernmental discussion to finalize agreement language.
