Aberdeen board shifts $40,000 from decorative lighting to Main Street pedestrian pathway

The Town Board approved moving $40,000 from an $80,000 decorative lighting allocation to the Main Street Railroad Crossing Pedestrian Pathway so the pathway can be completed in the current fiscal year; the decorative lighting project will be reprogrammed to FY 2026–27.
At the Nov. 10 work session the Planning Department asked the Town Board to reallocate $40,000 of an $80,000 allocation originally set aside for Duke decorative lighting in downtown. Planner Lindy Lamielle said an opportunity exists to complete the Main Street Railroad Crossing Pedestrian Pathway project within the current fiscal year and staff recommended transferring the remaining $40,000 to that project, leaving a zero balance in the current lighting fund.
Mayor Pro-tem Bryan Bowles moved to approve the reallocation and Commissioner Teressa Beavers seconded; the motion carried unanimously, 4-0. Planning staff said the decorative lighting project will be reprogrammed into the 2026–2027 fiscal year and that the pedestrian pathway is a current priority for downtown connectivity and safety.
The vote was procedural budget reallocation; no new budget appropriation was adopted at the Nov. 10 work session.
