Cloud County approves $150,000 Wind Farm fund distribution for small-business grants

Deb Lange, CloudCorp assistant, presented the committee's July Slate Selection and detailed recommended awards: Randall Farmers Cooperative Union — $40,000 for a new bio-fuel station; 3M Taxidermy — $25,000 for a taxidermy shop in Glasco; RW Developers — $20,000 to renovate a downtown building into two commercial spaces; G. Hood Construction — $20,000 to start a small woodworking shop; Sunflower Stores LLC dba Concordia Dairy Queen — $20,000 to replace a retaining wall; H&P Rentals LLC — $20,000 to renovate a downtown building and relocate Monique & Company; and Jaeger Cattle Company — $5,000 for permanent fencing and feed bunks.
Commissioner Ron Copple moved to approve the distribution, Commissioner Michael Cleveland seconded, and the Board voted unanimously to adopt the committee's recommendations. The motion and vote were recorded by County Clerk Shella Thoman.
The allocation uses Wind Farm funds to support local business investment and downtown renovation projects across Cloud County. The grant amounts and recipient projects were presented to the Board as recommended by the Grant Committee; the Board did not modify award amounts during the meeting.
The Board also heard related economic-development updates from Highway Administrator Rod Michaud and other department heads earlier in the meeting, but no additional conditions or follow-up tasks were specified in the record for the grants. The Board meeting adjourned at 2:09 p.m.
