At the Jan. 12 work session the Aberdeen Town Board addressed a mix of operational items during "other business."
Committee member (Speaker 6) said residents in newer neighborhoods have reported leaves and pine straw left on sidewalks for weeks and suggested budgeting for a leaf truck or a knuckle truck next year; members discussed leasing as an option. Chair (Speaker 3) and other members agreed to consider whether to add a vehicle to next year’s budget and asked staff to research costs.
The board discussed sponsorship opportunities at the town athletic complex. Committee member (Speaker 4) said a basic one‑year banner package is in the $1,500 range and larger two‑year packages have been discussed in the $8,000–$10,000 range; members noted pricing is negotiable and staff will reformat a package to seek interest.
Committee member (Speaker 1) announced a ribbon cutting and a separate dedication for the new library. Staff (Speaker 8) said furniture is being moved, signs will be set this week, and transitional staffing is in place with "Kelly" training and "Miss Thomas" transitioning into the director role with an expected start later in January.
Board members also raised an unreadable fish‑consumption/mercury advisory sign at the dam and reviewed the recent draining of the lake to inspect the wooden bridge. Committee member (Speaker 4) said engineers will prepare a report and staff expects to meet with FEMA to discuss potential funding for bridge replacement; staff anticipated having the engineer’s report to share with FEMA within a week.
Finally, the board voted to go into closed session under North Carolina General Statute 143‑318.11 to discuss attorney‑client privileged matters.
