The Bedford Planning Board approved a waiver Nov. 17 allowing TRC Investments to retain an added sleeve around an existing pylon sign at 26–28 South River Road and required low‑level landscaping around the base as a condition of approval.
Property owner Chris Scribe said the post‑sleeve was installed to improve the pole’s appearance and to create space to display the property address and tenant names. "I just thought the post was ugly," he told the board while showing before‑and‑after photos. Scribe said the sign structure itself remained the original support; the application updated panels and added high‑efficiency LED lighting.
Planning Director Becky Hiebert noted the sleeve falls partially within a road maintenance easement but that the existing sign had long been in that location. Staff recommended landscaping around the base; the board amended the motion to make landscaping subject to the planning director’s approval. The motion to approve the waiver carried by voice vote.
The approval was recorded with the condition that the applicant add low‑level plantings around the sign base and obtain the planning director’s sign‑off on the landscaping plan.
