The Town of Aberdeen board voted Dec. 8 to amend the downtown social‑district operating days and hours after staff presented a nine‑month review and stakeholder feedback.
Staff said the downtown advisory board unanimously recommended the change after surveys of participating ABC permit holders and public feedback. The amendment adds Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to the district’s approved days, makes the hours Monday–Saturday 11 a.m.–11 p.m., and keeps Sunday at 1 p.m.–9 p.m. Staff reported that only eight businesses currently participate in the program and that—since the district launched—there have been no reported incidents.
“To date, since the social district went active, there’s been 0 incidents reported,” the presenting staff member (speaker 15) said.
Staff estimated the signage update cost at about $800 and said signs would be ordered locally; the ordinance will become effective once the boundary signs are updated. The board set an effective start date of Jan. 19, 2026 to give staff and participating businesses time to prepare.
The board approved the ordinance by voice vote and directed staff to notify businesses and coordinate signage and the ABC‑related administrative filings.
