"At $355,900 to run the museum, it costs $29,659 a month... each museum visitor costs the taxpayer of Park County $296," the commenter said, calling the arrangement "extravagance" and urging the county to consider seasonal operation, consolidation with another museum or transferring the facility to nonprofit management.
Staff responded that the museum receives donor support and gifts that help cover some costs; the commenter noted the museum manager’s salary is paid in part by donors while the county covers benefits. No formal budget decision on the museum line was taken at the workshop; commissioners said they would consider public input as they finalize the draft budget ahead of the Sept. 4 amendment cutoff.
