Park County commissioners approve Seuss Creek citizen-initiated zoning district after extensive public comment

Park County commissioners on Aug. 19 approved a citizen-initiated zoning district for Seuss Creek after an extended public comment period in which residents, attorneys and commissioners debated boundaries, enforcement and impacts on water and fire safety.
Supporters told the commission that the Seuss Creek initiative met state and county requirements and drew signatures from roughly 85% of affected landowners. "We have followed the letter of Park County and Montana state law," said Ted Malinczek, a Seuss Creek resident, reading a letter that asked the commission to "honor your legal and ethical responsibility and implement the Seuss Creek CIZD that you approved at the meeting this past July 15." Multiple other residents reiterated concerns about protecting the valley's rural character, local water supplies and emergency access.
