County staff described the annual exercise used to calculate the rate from the actual cost of housing an inmate, noting the statute requires commissioners to set the rate so courts can grant credit toward fines and other jurisdictions can reimburse Park County when they house inmates here. Paul Spitler explained he worked with the sheriff's office to identify costs and produce the rate used in the resolution. Chad Glenn, Park County attorney, said setting an annual rate provides a consistent baseline for courts and minimizes year‑to‑year confusion.
The resolution was moved, seconded and adopted by the commission. Staff said the state raised reimbursement rates during the legislative session but that those increases still do not fully cover local costs.
Why it matters: The established rate guides courtroom credit for sentence‑in‑lieu cases and interjurisdictional reimbursements when Park County holds detainees for other jurisdictions.
