Powell County Weed Board approves $101,307.96 in November expenditures; tables equipment loan deposit decision

The Powell County Weed Board met on Nov. 18 and approved routine business, including the minutes and November expenditures totaling $101,307.96.
Coordinator Karen Laitala and Assistant Margaret Bauer presented the administrative report and monthly budget review. On a motion by Jodi Pauley, seconded by Sandy Gravely, the board unanimously approved the November expenditures in the amount of $101,307.96.
Laitala reported that a plant identified in the minutes as "Rush Skelton" weed was recently discovered along Highway 200 in Missoula County; the plants were photographed, bagged and reported to Missoula County's Early Detection and Rapid Response team. Powell County Invasive Species and the Blackfoot Challenge posted notices on social media, and landowners in the area were notified to be on the lookout.
During unfinished business the board reviewed equipment loan-out documents that County Attorney Ellen Donahue had examined with Commissioner Bill Hooker and Coordinator Laitala. Members discussed whether to require a deposit for loaned equipment, how large a deposit might be, whether to retain part of it, whether a separate bank account would be needed, and who would administer records. After deliberation the board tabled the question to allow members time to consider options.
Commissioner Bill Hooker told the board a Dec. 9 session on open meeting laws has enough registered attendees to proceed at 6 p.m. at the Community Center. The board set its next regular meeting for Dec. 16 at 1 p.m., with lunch in Elliston. Joe Dippold adjourned the meeting at 7:20 p.m.
