Park County approves $6,100 integration fee for jail monitoring system

Park County commissioners on Nov. 25 authorized a purchase order to integrate the county's recently purchased Guardian detention monitoring system with its existing SmartCop (SmartSoft) software, accepting a one-time integration cost of $6,100 and a recurring $1,100 annual fee.
Sheriff Tad said the Guardian system improves inmate monitoring and tracking and that integration with the county's current software is necessary to reduce liability and to make full use of the system. "Once we made that purchase, we were advised that in order to integrate it into our current software, there was going to be another cost," he said, noting the additional fee was unforeseen.
Sheriff staff said commissary funds are an allowable source to cover the integration costs. Commissioner Walls moved to sign the purchase order to integrate Guardian with the current SmartCop system; Commissioner Vermillion seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.
County staff said the purchase will improve monitoring and offload some manual tracking tasks. The motion authorized executing the purchase order; commissioners did not discuss alternative vendors or a formal procurement request during the meeting.
The county did not provide a projected return-on-investment timeline or estimate of liability reduction during the discussion.
