Public works cites new federal SRS funding and outlines road projects for 2026

Park County public works staff told commissioners Jan. 6 that recent federal SRS funding will add roughly $260,000 to next fiscal year’s road budget and outlined several planned projects.
Public works said the funding change reflects SRS appropriations passed shortly before Christmas and that the increase will be visible in next year’s budget. Proposed uses include adding gravel to Swingley and Old Yellowstone Trail North, pavement overlays on Stone Street and Gardner, advertising for the Horse Creek bridge project after school is out, and a bid package for mag-chloride for summer maintenance on high-use and hilly roads.
Staff also flagged a new 3-ton weight limit on Swaddell Bridge over Flathead Creek, which could complicate plowing and access, and said the department will return with details and bid packages as projects are ready.
