Park County approves purchase of two sanders to boost winter road service

Park County commissioners voted Dec. 16 to add two pickup plow sanders to the road department budget to improve winter maintenance on approximately 80 miles of paved roads.
Matt, a road department representative, told the commission that several of the county’s sanders are “getting old” and one model requires crews to stop every five minutes to clear jams. He said the replacements cost about $7,300 apiece and that proceeds from items listed on the Public Surplus auction site would more than cover the roughly $15,000 needed for two units.
Commissioners asked how many miles the sanders service; Matt said the county sands about 80 miles of paved roads and generally does not sand gravel routes because it is less effective. During the remote public comment period Sabina Strauss asked whether the figure was 80 or eight miles; the commission confirmed it was 80.
A motion to add the two sanders to the road department budget was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The approval authorizes staff to purchase the equipment and use surplus-auction proceeds for the expenditure; no further conditions or amendments were recorded in the meeting minutes. The commission did not record a roll-call tally of individual named votes in the transcript; the action passed by unanimous voice consent.
