Rockledge council unanimously adopts ordinance extending police DROP to eight years

The Rockledge City Council on March 18 unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 1944-2026 to extend the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) for city police employees from a five-year maximum to a maximum of eight years.
Councilman Duane A. Daski offered the ordinance for a second reading and moved to open the public hearing; City Attorney Garrett Olsen read the ordinance title aloud. Vice Chairman Frank T. Forester opened the matter for public comment and, after no members of the public addressed the council, Forester closed the hearing. Daski moved for adoption and Councilwoman Sammie Brown Martin seconded; the ordinance passed on a 6-0 vote (Cadore, Ferguson, Martin, Forester, Daski and Connor).
The ordinance text as presented amends Section 3.1, “Optional Forms of Retirement Income,” of the City of Rockledge Police Employees’ Retirement Plan to permit DROP participation for up to eight years. Council discussion at the meeting did not record additional conditions, amendments, or dissenting remarks.
The ordinance will take effect as provided in its text. The council did not record any follow-up direction to staff at the time of adoption.
