Rosebud County commissioners approve consent agenda, appoint Ashland representative to Council on Aging and OK fair contracts

At the Feb. 24 meeting of the Rosebud County Board of Commissioners, leaders handled routine county business and approved a series of motions.

The board approved the consent agenda and claims by voice vote after Chair called for public comment and none was offered. Chair moved the motion to approve the consent agenda; the motion was seconded and carried.

The board appointed Susan Richards to the vacant Ashland seat on the Council on Aging. Chair said Richards lived in the area and had served as president of the Powder River County Council on Aging; commissioners voted to appoint her to represent the Ashland area.

Commissioners approved a fiscal-year-2026 extension service agreement with Montana State University for the county extension agent. The agreement will be prorated to reflect the agent's start roughly mid-pay period (about one and a half months) and is based on a percentage of the agent's salary.

Treasurer Ashley Bell recommended, and the board approved, Resolution 2026-9 authorizing participation of bond proceeds in the Montana Board of Investments short-term pool. Commissioners said the funds were bond proceeds from a school project and approved placing them in an interest-bearing account.

The board also approved three fair-related contracts recommended by the fair board: a Daktronics video scoreboard with live-video and instant-replay capability for the rodeo at a cost of $5,500; a Rocky Mountain Mini Broncs/Mini Bulls entertainment package for two rodeo performances at a cost of $6,000; and a Severson production stage contract for the fair at a cost of $24,495.

There were no contested votes or extended controversy recorded on these items; the meeting concluded after handling the listed business.
