Commission staff brief commissioners on partnerships, fellowship sponsorships and General Meeting plans

Executive Director Swartzlander updated the California Commission on Aging Executive Committee on Feb. 3, 2026 about staffing, partnerships and upcoming events tied to the Feb. 11–12 General Meeting in Sacramento.
Swartzlander said newly appointed Commissioner Diana Carpenter‑Madoshi will attend the Feb. 11 General Meeting and the Feb. 12 legislative events in person. Staff are updating a memorandum of understanding with Eldera and have scheduled Dana Griffin, co‑founder and CEO of Eldera.ai, to present to commissioners at the Feb. 11 General Meeting to provide an update on the CCoA/Eldera partnership.
Staff reported the Age Inclusive Management Strategies (AIMS) cohort project was mentioned in the California Department of Aging report; statements of interest are being collected from partners and planners are targeting an in‑person cohort meeting in April. Marijke Melman said Arizona State University's Distinguished Innovation Fellows (DIT) have asked the commission to sponsor a California cohort; commissioners in the Los Angeles area were invited to attend ASU's Difference Engine 'BUILD' event in March 2026 where fellows will pitch projects to funders.
Swartzlander and Patrick Smith also reported meeting with University of Southern California Master of Policy students on a practicum project; staff said outreach from students and universities has strengthened and that aging issues are gaining recognition in the curriculum.
Staff reviewed logistical preparations for the Feb. 12 Legislative Lunch: California Department of Aging Executive Director Susan Damorais and Department of Rehabilitation Executive Director Kim Rutledge were invited to speak; a legislative toolkit and a schedule of appointments for commissioners' visits will be distributed, with additional packets and thank‑you cards available during a debrief session Feb. 12 from 3 to 4 p.m.
The meeting record shows no public comments and no commissioner comments were made during the Executive Committee meeting. The committee adjourned at 10:28 a.m.
