Treasure County commissioners spent early business of their Feb. 3 meeting on routine operations, facilities maintenance and staffing decisions before the afternoon public hearing on a land sale.
A county maintenance staff member outlined several small capital and repair projects at the fire hall and community center: using 35 surplus pickets to repair a brittle fence, moving a fire hydrant for safety, building shelves in a maintenance closet to preserve access to a crawl space and addressing broken floor tiles that may require full replacement rather than surface work. "I think it'd be a lot" to hire a flooring company to professionally strip and refinish the community-center floor, the staff member said, noting some tiles are broken and the existing glue can complicate repairs.
Commissioners agreed to interview two applicants for a combined event coordinator and janitorial position; the board asked staff to schedule interviews between now and the following Friday so a new hire could be in place ahead of planned events, including bingo on March 7. The county discussed logistics for renting tables and chairs for upcoming community events and recommended that renters consider outside vendors that provide delivery and pickup.
On finance and operations, the clerk reviewed budget lines and recent grant receipts, noting an unbudgeted DNRC deposit and other grant income that may require budget amendments. The road department reported both graders are running and flagged parked fire trucks and aging equipment that need disposition; staff will follow up on insurance and property records for radios and turnout gear.
The meeting closed routine business and then moved into the land-sale public hearing in the afternoon.
