New Richmond farmer's market coordinator outlines SNAP double-dollars renewal and growing pantry distribution

Callie Smith, introduced by staff as the new farmer's market coordinator, used her first formal Parks Board meeting on Feb. 12 to recap market operations and to announce renewed funding for nutrition-focused programs.
Smith said the market continues Saturday operations, maintains vendor and administrative records, and runs SNAP, Bridging the Gap and WIC payment options. Since July the market has distributed more than 2,600 servings of fresh produce to local food pantries as part of a farm-to-pantry initiative, she said. The Bridging the Gap program at the market has distributed roughly $3,702 in SNAP vouchers.
Smith announced that Reed approved $37,500 to continue the market's SNAP double-dollars program for 2026 and an additional $5,000 for the farm-to-pantry program. She also reported a recent mandatory SmartSnap vendor meeting to review state updates that limit SNAP-eligible items to healthier options.
Upcoming market events Smith listed include the Love Local market, a plant swap and live music on subsequent weekends. Smith said staff and volunteers will continue outreach and vendor support as the market expands programming. Board members welcomed the report and thanked staff for the ongoing market work.
