Sanitary board authorizes leases for three residential trash trucks; fourth to follow

The Richmond Sanitary District Board on Feb. 24 approved lease agreements to acquire three new automated side‑load residential trash trucks through Huntington Bank, with supplier Pyramid Equipment under a Sourcewell purchasing contract.
Staff presented pricing: the unit list price was stated as $338,096.69 per truck, a Sourcewell discount of 4% ($13,523.87) reduced the unit price to $324,572.82. Huntington Bank will lease the three trucks to the sanitation department at an annual cost of $217,887.46. Staff said a fourth truck will be added under a separate lease agreement when it becomes available; availability was reported as expected in April.
Board discussion noted supply constraints for chassis. "Truck chassis are very hard to come by, in a timely manner," a board member said, and staff reported working for more than two years to secure chassis and hold units for the district.
The motion to enter into the lease agreements for the three trucks was moved by Bakshi, seconded by Miller and approved by voice vote. Staff said the leases will standardize fleet equipment and reduce procurement delays caused by separate bidding processes.
Next steps: staff will finalize lease documents and return any required agreements to the board for signature as the fourth truck becomes available.
