Park County approves Guardian RFID system to modernize detention-center checks

Park County commissioners approved a contract with Guardian RFID to replace the detention center’s current manual cell-check pad system with an electronic hardware-and-software system that logs checks, meals, medications and incidents.
A county official described the current method as a stick-and-pad process and said Guardian RFID would use tablet-style devices for detention officers, allow automated documentation of routine checks and enable recording of incidents. The official said the one-time cost is $3,900 with a $95 annual fee and that the commissary fund, financed by inmate purchases, can cover the purchase and fees for at least the next few years.
A commissioner noted that the county’s recent Mako peer review recommended this upgrade and argued it would improve reporting and reduce liability. A motion to sign the contract with Guardian RFID was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff said the sheriff’s signature is required to finalize the contract and that the county will monitor funding from the commissary fund for the recurring fee.
