County manager: $2 million regional planning grant covers Ninth Judicial District; county to explore solar savings

County Manager Meadow Forget told the Roosevelt County Commission on Feb. 17 that the county’s second-quarter budget report had been accepted and that staff will begin budget adjustments and department budget meetings in late March.
Forget described an early-access planning grant that will cover the Ninth Judicial District, saying Curry County will act as fiscal agent for a $2,000,000 award that could be used for court-related projects, detention or drug-court efforts across the district. She asked staff to schedule department-head budget meetings and a special meeting for elected officials and department heads to present budget requests.
On energy, Forget said she has discussed a potential solar and energy-savings project with Schneider Electric; the company offered to perform an 80–120-hour analysis at no cost to the county to identify potential savings and benefits. She said the county will evaluate that work before making any budget or capital commitments.
