Board of Assessors backs raising Senior Tax Work-Off cap to $1,500

At its Jan. 26 meeting the Town of Bedford Board of Assessors voted to recommend that the Select Board increase the Senior Tax Work-Off program cap from $1,000 per household to $1,500.
The Council on Aging had requested raising the available funds to $1,500 or $2,000; board members noted state law permits a $1,500 cap and that some other communities set the cap at $2,000. The motion to recommend $1,500 passed 2-0, with Nance Wolk moving and Rebecca Neale seconding.
The recommendation asks the Select Board to consider the increase; the minutes do not include a fiscal estimate of the townwide cost if the change is adopted.
