Pleasanton — At its Aug. 8 meeting the Pleasanton Unified School District board approved a series of procurement and facilities items intended to support programs and campus operations this school year.
Contracts: The board approved two fifth‑grade outdoor education contracts presented by district elementary staff: Exploring New Horizons for $290,185 and Web of Life for $118,686.68. Trustees and staff discussed parent concerns at some sites and emphasized that teachers lead trip planning; staff noted a newly negotiated stipend to compensate teachers who chaperone.
Purchasing and nutrition: Child Nutrition Services described cooperative purchasing under an Action Purchasing co‑op of 12 Bay Area districts; the co‑op’s awards included vendors for commodities, fresh produce, dairy (Crystal Creamery) and bread. CNS staff said the cooperative helps stabilize pricing across members and that Pleasanton’s purchases on these contracts total about $1 million annually. The board approved the cooperative awards and also approved an Omnia cooperative agreement for Home Depot Pro to supply custodial materials with an annual custodial budget figure cited at about $350,000.
Facilities and finance: Trustees adopted the routine annual interfund borrowing resolution that authorizes staff to shift cash between district funds for short‑term cash flow; staff said the board will be informed when transfers occur. The board also approved a change order for a DRICO asphalt resurfacing project (change order amount as presented to the board) and approved a resolution naming district representatives for the State Allocation Board programs; staff said the district expects roughly $1.5 million in state matching funds in 2024 and about $4 million in 2025, with eligibility for more if a state bond passes.
Kids Club expansion: The board approved an architectural agreement to add portable capacity for the Fairlands Kids Club; staff said the project would add about 85 slots and could generate about $528,000 a year for expanded learning operations. Staff said the project timeline depends on approvals and DSA reviews and estimated roughly a 14‑month timeline to operational status.
What’s next: Staff will move forward on contract execution, update the board on interfund transfers if used, and return with project schedules and funding details as work proceeds.
