Roosevelt County renews MOA to house Cannon AFB detainees; jail reports 55 in custody and 13 in MAT program

Roosevelt County commissioners on March 3 approved renewal of a memorandum of agreement with the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base to continue housing detainees. The MOA is an annual renewal that allows the county detention center to accept detainees from the base.
Detention Administrator Shayla Ramsey reported a facility count of 55 detainees (45 male, 10 female), including eight out-of-county detainees. She said February billing included $8,225 billed to Quay County and $9,800 billed to both Cannon Air Force Base and Chaves County. Ms. Ramsey told commissioners the facility is fully staffed and that 13 participants are enrolled in the medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program (11 male, 2 female); one participant is receiving medication. Program participants are engaged in art, yoga, group counseling and individual counseling; three detainees are participating in GED classes.
The commission approved the MOA renewal by motion and unanimous vote. No changes to terms or rates were discussed on the record during the March 3 meeting.
