Summary
The Burbank School District No. 111 board unanimously approved the FY2025 audit with an unmodified opinion, authorized a $6,560,342 Allied Facility Partners contract for 2026 facilities work, and approved the consent agenda covering personnel actions, student activity fund review and other routine items.
Crowe LLP Senior Manager Hollis Hanson-Pollock told the Board of Education of Burbank School District No. 111 that auditors issued an unmodified opinion on the district's FY2025 financial statements and found "no material weaknesses or deficiencies." She said auditors performed extra testing on the student activity fund because of its higher risk and found no issues, and added that the single audit remains open pending a federal document needed to complete that compliance review.
Business Manager Dr. Frances Ochoa asked the board to accept the FY2025 audit as presented. Vice President Thomas Jansen moved to approve the Consent Agenda, which included adopting the audit, approval of claims totaling $1,583,713.74 across funds, minutes, multiple personnel actions, and contracts; Member Gregory Komperda seconded. A roll call vote was recorded as Ayes: Jeniz Greene, Marissa Swistowicz, Jessica Thomas, Thomas Jansen, Gregory Komperda, Agnieszka Dabrowski, John Schuetz; the motion carried.
The consent agenda included the board's approval of a $6,560,342 contract with Allied Facility Partners for 2026 projects described by Buildings & Grounds Director Mr. Ficker: asbestos abatement and tile replacement at Maddock, stormwater detention work at Tobin, a new public address and clock system and hallway flooring at Kennedy, asbestos abatement and window replacement at McCord, and exterior door signage districtwide. The board also approved an agreement with JP Architects, Ltd. for the Ten-Year Health Life Safety Survey in the amount of $45,025.
Personnel items approved under the consent agenda included acceptance of several resignations, multiple probationary hires for crossing guards, paraprofessionals and meal supervisors, approval of specified FMLA requests (for example, approximately five days for Caren Hennesey-Wild beginning Sept. 26, 2025, and approximately thirty-four days for Nicole Wonogas beginning April 7, 2025), and a set of salary lane changes effective Aug. 11, 2025. The consent agenda also approved listed activities, teacher and student-teacher placements, and routine fund disbursements.
Dr. Ochoa also presented the Stickney Township Treasurer's Third Quarter Investment Report; she reported both portfolios yield an average weighted return of 4.09%. Mr. Ficker noted the winning bid for a surplus truck and trailer was $1,505 and that the items have been picked up by the buyer. Crowe's Hanson-Pollock cautioned that the single-audit component remains pending until the federal document is released.
The board scheduled the Regional Office of Education site visit for Oct. 29 as part of ongoing oversight and planning. No public comments were offered on these items during the meeting.
