Superintendent R. Baney updated the Kewanee CUSD 229 Board on facilities projects and summer‑school plans at the Jan. 20 meeting.
Baney said the KHS addition is close to finalization and that the tennis‑court project is awaiting gates, a few light poles and final surface material. "The Petersen Auditorium HVAC project should be up and running in a couple of weeks," she told the Board, and contractor CEDG will be re‑installing solar panels soon.
On programming, Baney said the district plans to staff most elementary and junior‑high summer‑school positions using Title funds and the Central 1003(a) grant; stipends will be slightly lower than last year to allow hiring more positions, while high‑school summer staffing will be paid from District funds. She added that Belle school will be closed over the summer for an asbestos remediation project.
Baney also summarized the Illinois State Superintendent’s budget submission to the governor, saying ISBE’s request includes $350 million for Evidence Based Funding; the Governor’s budget is expected in February. The Board took no controversy‑driven actions on the facilities updates, approving related consent and administrative items by roll call as recorded in the minutes.
