The Kewanee Community Unit School District No. 229 Board of Education approved the 2026–27 school calendar and a series of personnel and records‑management actions during its Jan. 20 regular meeting.
Superintendent R. Baney presented the calendar, certified‑staff seniority lists and years‑of‑continuous‑service lists, and recommended multiple personnel actions. "The items are presented as included in the Board packet," Baney said, and the Board voted to approve each recommendation. Member DeBord moved to adopt the calendar; Member DeMay seconded and the roll call vote was unanimous among members present (Member Dev was absent).
The Board approved resignations filed by Loyal Brown (bus aide, effective Jan. 23, 2026) and Michael Purdy (bus driver, effective Feb. 3, 2026) and voted to rescind an offer of employment to Johnathan Wagner (bus driver) effective immediately. Members also approved a slate of hires across classroom and support roles — including a KHS law‑enforcement teacher, district IT support specialist, custodial staff, cafeteria substitute, coaches, advisors and 21st‑Century program staff — noting that all hires are contingent on obtaining required certifications and qualifications.
The meeting record shows the Board approved leaves (FMLA for Jill Taylor and Keith Resch), a long‑term substitute appointment for the ROE Safe School Program, several staff transfers and multiple volunteer coaching appointments. Member Christiansen moved approval of the seniority and service lists; Member Salisbury seconded and the motion carried by roll call.
On records management, Baney recommended keeping closed‑session minutes closed and authorizing the destruction of verbatim closed‑session recordings created before July 1, 2024. Member Christiansen moved the measure; Member Salisbury seconded and the motion passed unanimously among those present.
The Board took the actions by recorded votes where indicated in the public minutes; Member Dev was absent for the meeting. The Board adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
