A district staff member described the change as a three-year commitment in which a coach partners with a first-year teacher holding a provisional license; after six successful semesters the beginning teacher may apply for a lifetime license. The model emphasizes peer coaching, with building administrators providing coaching for the assigned coaches.
A committee member who participated in the program committee praised the addition of an initial pre-visit discussion so coaches know what to look for when observing mentees in the classroom, saying it strengthens consistency and prepares coaches before visits. The board moved, seconded and approved the program for the 2025–26 school year.
The approved program aims to create sustained instructional support and a culture that encourages teachers to remain in the district. Staff said implementation details and monitoring will follow through the normal administrative process.
