Select Board raises senior property tax work-off cap to $1,500 per year

The Bedford Select Board voted unanimously on Feb. 9 to increase the Senior Property Tax Work-Off Program cap from $1,000 to $1,500 per year for eligible seniors, with the program limited to up to 10 participants. Town Manager Matt Hanson told the board the Board of Assessors and the Council on Aging had recommended the change.
The hourly rate for the program remains $15 per hour (the state minimum wage), which is the maximum the town can offer under the existing program rules. Hanson said funding for the increased cap will come from the Board of Assessors' overlay reserve account. Town Meeting originally adopted the program; changes to program specifics require Select Board action, which the board approved at the Feb. 9 meeting.
Select Board members moved and seconded the motion to raise the cap; the motion passed 3-0-0.
