County engineer briefs supervisors on secondary roads, culvert and bridge work

Ringgold County Engineer Jared Johnson told the Board on March 16 that crews hauled spot rock to the northwest maintainer district, fabricated bridge guardrail posts and formwork components, repaired signs, readied plow trucks for a forecasted storm, completed W.O. 1437 and W.O. 1432, advanced Middle Fork 7 and Poe 17 work, and awaits IDOT reimbursement for the Diagonal sidewalk project.
County Engineer Jared Johnson updated the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors on March 16 about ongoing secondary roads and bridge projects, maintenance work and project planning.
Johnson reported that crews hauled spot rock to the northwest maintainer district and fabricated bridge guardrail posts and falsework clamps and putters needed for upcoming construction. The county sign truck was out repairing or replacing damaged signage, and plow trucks were prepared ahead of a forecasted winter storm.
Work orders reported as complete included W.O. 1437 (replacement of a deteriorated 24-inch corrugated metal pipe [CMP] culvert with a new 24-inch ADS culvert on 208th Avenue between P68 and 325th Avenue) and W.O. 1432 (clearing brush and reshaping approximately 0.5 mile of ditch on 208th Avenue between P68 and 325th Avenue). The minutes note that bids were received for a construction project and the Board moved forward approving construction using county day labor.
At the Middle Fork 7 project site crews finished hauling precast sections, cleared and grubbed the site, removed the existing bridge, completed rough excavation for the culvert, and dug a diversion channel. Johnson said weather permitting crews plan to finish excavation to grade, place foundation treatment material and begin setting culvert sections.
Johnson also said final plans for the Middle Fork 10 project have been drafted and are under review and that the department completed pile design for a bridge and began final plan development for the Poe 17 project. The department contacted the Iowa Department of Transportation about final reimbursement for the Diagonal sidewalk project; IDOT responded that the request is financed and payment should be sent within the next few weeks.
No formal votes were recorded on the road items beyond the Board's administrative decision to proceed with day labor for a bid project; the Board took formal votes elsewhere on the agenda.
