SFUSD unveils public and internal student‑outcomes dashboards; commissioners press for data access and measure validity

Jess Reyes (Research, Planning & Assessment) and Devin Corrigan walked the board through the public dashboard's tiles (enrollment, attendance, SBAC, suspension, SEL survey results), which the presenters said are updated twice yearly for the public view. Internal dashboards, the staff said, are updated more frequently and include personally identifiable information for site leaders to use for operational decisions.
Commissioners asked whether the dashboards allow interactions across measures (for example, viewing SBAC and suspension outcomes for chronically absent students), whether users can download research files and how the district would ensure that standardized measures are appropriate for early-grade literacy. Staff said internal dashboards already allow complex cross-filtering and that while the public dashboard does not directly supply research files, the district can prepare sanitized research files suitable for public download and will consider adding that feature.
Several commissioners cautioned that some early-grade computerized benchmark assessments can reflect students' test-taking conditions rather than true reading ability and urged the district to pair standardized assessments with classroom-level measures and teacher-collected data. Staff described planned PD and documentation to help site leaders use dashboards and noted that they are soliciting continuous feedback from principals and stakeholders.
