Finance Committee unanimously recommends FY27 departmental and operating budgets, including $53.7M school budget

The Town of Bedford Finance Committee met on Feb. 12, 2026, and unanimously recommended a slate of FY27 departmental and operating budgets to be considered at Annual Town Meeting. Committee members voted 8-0-0 on each motion presented during the evening session.
Mark Bailey made the motions for the Ambulance budget ($1,665,864), the Planning budget ($287,875), the Town Operating budget ($25,828,734), the School budget ($53,697,409), and the Non-Discretionary budget ($45,343,593); Karen Dunn seconded most of those motions. Ms. Dunn moved approval of the Library budget ($1,719,795), which Mr. Bailey seconded. The Board of Health budget ($548,412) was moved by Mr. Bailey and seconded by Ms. Dunn. Each of these motions passed by recorded votes, with affirmative votes from Ms. Dunn, Mr. Xu, Mr. Lee, Mr. Prince, Mr. Thomas, Mr. Rowan, Mr. Jimmerson, and Mr. Bailey.
The committee also reviewed the current set of Annual Town Meeting warrant articles and recommended approval of the list read by Chair Ben Thomas; Mr. Bailey moved that the Finance Committee recommend the articles and Ms. Dunn seconded — that motion also passed 8-0-0. The committee approved its Feb. 5, 2026 minutes and adjourned at 9:08 PM.
The Finance Committee packet included the FY27 FinCom Scorecard and the ATM 2026 warrant draft for members’ review ahead of Town Meeting.
