Select Board opens 2026 Annual Town Meeting warrant and outlines schedule for hearings and budget review

At its Jan. 5, 2026 meeting, the Bedford Select Board voted unanimously to open the 2026 Annual Town Meeting (ATM) warrant and reviewed the proposed timeline and article list leading up to the March 23, 2026 town meeting.
Town Manager Matt Hanson presented the warrant timeline and the board discussed deadlines and public hearings: a petitioner deadline on Monday, Jan. 12; subsequent Select Board meetings for budget and bylaw reviews through February; and a plan to close the warrant and finalize recommendations by Feb. 23. The board listed the following among draft warrant articles: reports of town officers and committees; debate rules; a consent article; FY27 Community Preservation Committee budget; FY27 capital projects plan; PEG access and cable expense budget; a salary administration bylaw amendment; appropriations for special education; operating budgets for FY27; an ambulance enterprise budget; and several bylaw and charter amendment items.
Select Board member Daniel Brosgol moved to open the warrant; the board approved the motion by roll-call vote (Shawn Hanegan, aye; Daniel Brosgol, aye; Paul Mortenson, aye; Bopha Malone, aye; Terrence Parker, aye). The board will continue to review and finalize motions and recommendations at upcoming meetings and expects the ATM to convene on Monday, March 23, 2026.
