On Jan. 5, 2026, the Bedford Select Board voted unanimously to appoint Stuart Trout to the Hanscom Area Towns Committee (HATS) for a three-year term ending June 30, 2028, and to appoint Armen Zildjian to the Patriotic Holiday Committee for a two-year term ending June 30, 2027.
Stuart Trout introduced himself to the board and described his engineering background and interest in aviation and Hanscom-area issues. Trout told the board he supports refurbishment and hangar expansion proposals in the Supplemental Draft Impact Report but raised concerns about the transportation of fuel and aircraft and said he has spoken with members of the Stop Private Jet Expansion group as part of outreach. The board moved and approved his appointment on a 5-0 vote.
Armen Zildjian said he is active with the rifle squad and the Masonic community and wants to help honor veterans through the Patriotic Holiday Committee’s events. The board approved his appointment on a 5-0 vote.
The board also heard from Steven Wightman, an applicant to the Taxation Aid Committee, who said he has experience with taxes and wants to help older residents remain in their homes. The board decided to postpone consideration of Wightman’s appointment to a subsequent meeting; no vote was recorded on that appointment.
The Select Board recorded all roll-call votes as: Shawn Hanegan, aye; Daniel Brosgol, aye; Paul Mortenson, aye; Bopha Malone, aye; Terrence Parker, aye. The board authorized the Town Manager to sign appointment letters for the approved appointees.
The appointments take effect as recorded and the board thanked applicants for their willingness to serve. The postponed Taxation Aid Committee appointment will return to a future Select Board agenda.
