Maple Grove IT director outlines modernization, LOGIS limitations and ERP progress

Information Technology Director Ed O'Donnell told council that the department is focusing on service delivery modernization, cybersecurity and automation, with prioritized investments in police technology, public digital experience and AI adoption. O'Donnell said the city has offered a newly authorized 2026 IT position to a candidate with more than 20 years’ experience, which will ease immediate staffing pressure.
O'Donnell and Finance Director Greg Sticha discussed LOGIS, noting some city applications have transitioned to direct vendor contracts and highlighting tradeoffs between an integrated county service and the flexibility of contracting directly. City Administrator Heidi Nelson said that as cities rely more on technology, LOGIS has struggled to be nimble and that any alternative would need careful cost evaluation.
Finance Director Sticha also updated council on ERP and utility‑billing implementations and an enacted franchise fee program intended to help support road reconstruction funding.
