The Maple Grove City Council on Nov. 17 adopted a package of personnel policy amendments that add a paid family and medical leave (PFML) article and revise multiple leave, compensation and purchasing provisions, effective Jan. 1, 2026. The consent package also authorized recruitment for a full‑time community service officer in the Police Department to fill a position created by the retirement of Mark Ryan effective Dec. 5, 2025.
The human resources changes were presented as part of the consent agenda and included amendments to articles on FMLA, pregnancy and parenting leave, sick leave and sick leave donation, anti‑discrimination/harassment provisions, work hours and breaks, the compensation plan, probation periods, and holidays. Council approved the consent items as amended in a single motion that carried 5‑0 (mover: Councilmember Jon McCullough; second: Councilmember Rachelle Johnson).
The consent package also covered routine administrative, engineering and procurement items: nuisance abatement at 9223 Hemlock Lane North, adoption of an ordinance allowing administrative fees for erosion and sediment control violations, award of a bid package for the City Hall renovation, engineering work on Elm Creek Boulevard and Weaver Area Trail improvements, and approval of claims totaling $7,932,642.31. Each of those measures was included in the consent motion approved by the council.
Council did not debate the personnel amendments in detail at the meeting; the packet lists the effective date for the new PFML article as January 1, 2026. The council will proceed with recruitment for the community service officer position following the approved authorization.
