The Oneida County Public Safety Committee on March 12 approved a staffing request for a Juvenile Clerk position that replaces a '30 days' overlap-training description with a 160-hour figure and forwarded the amended request to the county Executive Committee. The motion (moved by Chairperson Steven Schreier, seconded by Russ Fisher) passed 4-1, with Billy Fried voting no.
The staffing request was discussed as a continuity and training measure for the juvenile clerk role; the committee debated the specific wording and agreed to specify 160 hours of overlap training rather than a 30-day phrasing before sending the request to the Executive Committee for final approval.
The committee also unanimously approved annual account adjustments for the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Grady Hartman described the adjustments as accounting maneuvers related to jail expenses, saying they are "mostly for medical debt from the jail." The motion to approve the annual account adjustments passed (moved by Debbie Condado, seconded by Chairperson Schreier) 5-0.
Members corrected the minutes from the December 11, 2026 meeting, at the request of Member Michael Tautges, to reflect that a prior vote on a request for opioid funds should read 3-1 rather than 3-0. The amended minutes were approved unanimously.
The committee voted unanimously to enter closed session under Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(e) to discuss an ambulance service contract; the roll-call vote to enter closed session was recorded and the committee returned to open session by roll call. Chairperson Schreier announced after the meeting that no action was taken during closed session and that no motions emerged from the discussion.
There were no public comments. The committee scheduled its next meeting for April 9, 2026 and adjourned at 11:10 a.m.
