Oneida County’s Board of Supervisors on March 17 adopted a resolution urging the Governor and State Legislature to enact a comprehensive and sustainable transportation funding solution to support state and local roads.
The Public Works Committee presented Resolution #25–2026, which notes that local governments maintain roughly 90% of the state’s road miles and that transportation aids have not kept pace with inflation and rising construction costs. The resolution sets four principles for a funding solution: providing adequate and reliable revenue growth for long-term planning; using General Purpose Revenue (GPR) and bonding prudently; adjusting transportation user fees to sustain purchasing power; and ensuring funding for reconstruction, preservation and safety improvements across state and local systems.
The board approved the resolution as part of the consent agenda. The County Clerk was directed to transmit a copy to the Governor’s office and to members of the Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly representing districts within Oneida County.
Why it matters: Oneida County joins other local governments in warning that insufficient, unpredictable state transportation aid forces communities to defer projects, increase borrowing or impose local fees. The resolution frames transportation funding as essential to economic competitiveness and public safety.
