Council members representing the corridor told colleagues the area has waited decades for transit and sidewalk improvements. One sponsor thanked city staff and Metro Transit for coordinating with MnDOT after the county paused its Riverview Corridor planning, and described the resolution as a critical step in securing future bus‑rapid‑transit service and related street reconstruction.
The resolution does not commit city construction dollars but signals municipal support for Metro Transit and MnDOT plans and will help meet regional funding and planning milestones. The measure passed without opposition.
The council took the vote as part of a packed agenda that included other transportation and neighborhood items. City staff previously told council that the designation would position West 7th for federal and state transit funding and for coordinated sidewalk, tree‑planting and crosswalk improvements.
Council President Naker presided over the vote; councilmembers said they will continue to work with Metro Transit and county partners to refine timelines and scopes as design proceeds.
