Colorado Senate introduces multiple bills, then adjourns until March 26

The Colorado Senate on March 25 introduced a series of bills covering lobbyist regulation, firearm dealer requirements, regulatory relief for local education providers, inpatient behavioral health access, construction retainage and a proposed renaming of a March 31 voluntary holiday, then voted to adjourn until 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026.

Senate Bill 147 was read for the record with sponsors listed as Senator Cutter and Senator Peltner and Representatives Johnson and Froehle; the item concerns regulation of lobbyists. A separate funding item addressing the Colorado drivers' vehicle services account in the Highway Users Tax Fund was presented and referred to the Finance Committee.

House Bill 1126, credited to Representatives Sirota and Woodgrove and Senator Kipp, was introduced concerning requirements for dealing firearms and was referred to the State Fair and Military Affairs committee. House Bill 1305, by Representative Lukens and Senator Roberts, was presented as a bill to enhance access to inpatient behavioral health by aligning state and federal statutes and was referred to the Health and Human Services Committee. House Bill 1311, sponsored by Representatives Duran and Carter and the senators listed in the reading, would allow use of a bond in lieu of retainage in construction contracts; that item was referred to Finance. House Bill 1339, by Representatives Duran and Garcia and Senators Danielson and Cutter, would change the voluntary legal holiday observed March 31 from "Cesar Chavez Day" to "Farm Workers Day" and was referred to Local Government and Housing.

When announcements concluded, the presiding officer recognized the Majority Leader, who moved, "If there's no further business, I move the Senate stand in adjournment until tomorrow, Thursday, March 26 at the hour of 9 a.m." The presiding officer called for the voice vote, an "aye" was called and the presiding officer declared, "The ayes have it." The motion to adjourn carried; the Senate recessed until 9 a.m. on 03/26/2026.
