Senior Officer Manueli briefed the council on public safety activity covering March 1–15, reporting that the Wasco Police Department handled 802 total incidents during the period, including 470 calls for service and 332 officer-initiated incidents.
"The Wasco Police Department has handled 802 total incidents, including 470 calls for service and 332 officer initiated incidents," Manueli said. He reported officers conducted 148 traffic stops that produced 57 citations and 14 moving-violation citations as part of ongoing traffic enforcement efforts.
Manueli said officers opened 81 cases in the two-week span, with 41 resulting in misdemeanor and felony arrests. He also reported three stolen vehicles and three vehicle recoveries; officers responded to five traffic collisions during the period and recorded no DUI-related collisions.
The officer highlighted community engagement work: members of his shift participated in Reading Across America at Teresa Burke Elementary School to read to students. Council members thanked the department and asked follow-up questions about collision locations and a DUI checkpoint; Manueli confirmed the checkpoint began at about 1700 hours and that the recorded collisions were within city limits.
Chief Appleton was scheduled to present but left because of a call; Manueli stood in to deliver the report. Council members expressed appreciation for the traffic enforcement and the department's school outreach.
