Counsel told the West Virginia Senate Finance Committee that House Bill 54 57 would apply to Trooper Plan B members who experience partial-duty or non-duty disabilities at the time they revert to regular retirement, typically at age 55.
"This bill allows partial and nonduty disabled members to get half credit for the period in which they were disabled," Counsel said, illustrating the effect: if a member were disabled for 18 years before reverting to regular retirement, the retirement board would add nine years to the member's credited service.
Counsel said the measure came from House Finance and passed the House by a vote of 91 to 0. After the explanation, the vice chairman moved that the committee report the bill to the full Senate with the recommendation that it pass; the committee voted in favor.
