The Aransas Pass ISD board approved a memorandum of understanding with Del Mar College that will allow the college to provide evening high-school equivalency (GED) and English-as-a-second-language classes to district parents. Under the MOU, Del Mar will cover instructional costs and the district will provide facilities and assist with outreach.
Dr. Barnes said the program complements the district's Title III outreach responsibilities and helps bilingual parents access adult education and college-and-career readiness services. "They'll pay for the course. We'll just provide the facility," he said, adding that the district will help publicize the offering.
Separately, the board approved the order of election and the joint election services contract with the San Patricio County Election Administrator (coordinated with the city) to host the May 3, 2025 trustee election for Places 1, 2, 5 and 7. Dr. Barnes asked the board to review and approve the election order and notice, and the board approved the motion to proceed.
Board members noted filing deadlines for prospective candidates and discussed outreach for the Del Mar offerings; the items were approved by voice vote in open session.
