The Aransas Pass ISD board approved several budget amendments and accepted a philanthropic donation during its recent meeting.
Administration described damage to the concession stand that affected fiber cabling and a network switch after a water main break. The board approved Budget Amendment No. 5 to move $12,500 from fund balance to cover repairs and to relocate the equipment to a drier, more secure location.
The board also approved Budget Amendment No. 7 to fund up to $35,000 to renovate the football practice field. Facilities staff explained that drainage and underlying soil problems are preventing sod from taking root; the district will buy topsoil and rent equipment while maintenance staff will perform the labor.
Miss Chapa presented a $65,000 donation from the Ed Rachal Foundation to support the district's ACE program and asked the board to accept the funds and authorize a related budget amendment. The board approved acceptance of the donation and the associated Budget Amendment No. 6 to allocate the gift into the district's budget.
Board members asked that future designs and construction consider the placement of technology and drainage features to avoid similar damage, and one board member suggested following up with the contractor who performed the work that created the practice-field base.
