Maple Grove approves $5.7M transit operating budget, permanently drops several pandemic-era routes

The Maple Grove City Council approved the Maple Grove Transit 2026 operating budget and voted to eliminate several pandemic-suspended bus routes at its Dec. 15 meeting.
Councilmember Mike Ostaffe said the 2026 operating budget totals $5.7 million and is funded roughly 85% by the Minnesota Vehicle Sales Tax; he said approximately $700,000 of the budget would be covered by passenger fares and the remainder is subsidized by state funding. The Council voted to approve the budget and to eliminate the previously suspended Routes 780, 782, 783, 788 and the A branch of Route 781.
The motion to approve the budget and eliminate the listed routes passed unanimously.
