Maple Grove adopts $55.9 million 2026 budget, raises levy about 6.35%

The Maple Grove City Council adopted the city’s 2026 general fund budget and tax levy at its Dec. 15 meeting, approving a $55,874,800 spending plan and a $49,998,600 property tax levy. Finance Director Sticha told the Council the budget represents a 6.77% increase in general fund spending and the levy is a 6.35% increase over 2025.
Sticha said the general fund portion of the levy — $45,933,600 — will provide roughly 82.3% of general fund revenue, with licenses and permits contributing about 6.7% of revenue. He said the impact on the average Maple Grove home would be approximately $87 to $90 for the year.
Councilmembers praised staff for planning amid growth. Councilmember Johnson said the budget supports continued services for a growing suburban community; Mayor Mark Steffenson said Maple Grove’s levy increase remains on the lower end compared with peer cities. The Council voted 5–0 to adopt Resolution No. 25-171, which also establishes capital improvement plan levies and future CIP projects.
The city said the budget includes consolidated language for establishing individual CIP projects related to roads, buildings, transit and utilities; staff will bring those project details forward as separate items.
