Maple Grove council previews $55.9 million 2026 budget, schedules final vote Dec. 15

The Maple Grove City Council on Dec. 1 heard a presentation on the proposed 2026 general fund budget and held a public hearing, with final adoption scheduled for the council’s Dec. 15 meeting.
Finance Director Sticha said the proposed 2026 general fund budget totals $55,874,800, a 6.77% increase over 2025, and that the city’s proposed property tax levy would rise 6.35% to $49,998,600. "The impact of the proposed levy for 2026 on the average valued Maple Grove home is an increase of approximately $87-$90 for the entire year," Sticha told the council.
The budget presentation noted that the general fund portion of the levy, $45,933,600, would provide roughly 82.3% of general fund revenue; licenses and permits were projected to supply about 6.7% of general fund revenue. Sticha said the proposed budget includes 2.33 new full-time equivalent positions and reflects growth in the city’s tax base and continued residential construction.
No residents spoke during the public hearing. The council did not take a final vote at the Dec. 1 meeting but will meet on Monday, Dec. 15 to adopt the final budget and tax levy for 2026.
If adopted, the levy and budget would fund ongoing services and planned staffing increases; staff told the council they continue to pursue efficiencies and cost-saving strategies to manage service demand in a growing suburban community.
