The Public Works and Safety Board approved Resolution 2-2026 on March 5 to lease four former Richmond Community Schools police vehicles to the city for $1 per vehicle.
James Dahl of the Richmond Police Department explained that the police department assumed policing duties for Richmond Community Schools after the school department disbanded its own police function. Under the lease the city will assume maintenance, insurance and operational oversight; Dahl said the vehicles are operational and relatively new. The lease is indefinite unless terminated by either party.
Committee members moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote; the transcript records the board responding "Aye" and the chair declaring the motion carried. The board did not record individual roll-call tallies in the meeting transcript.
