Toole County commissioners adopt FY2026 budgets, approve pay changes and move polling place

The commission reappointed Travis Clark of Levett Group Insurance as the county’s agent for the Property and Casualty Trust and approved minutes from the Aug. 7 meeting before taking up school and county budgets. Chair led the approvals of the Shelby Elementary, Shelby High and Sunburst K–12 FY2026 budgets as presented; the commission also approved the Milada School elementary budget as a nonoperating budget because the school currently has no students, with funds to cover utilities and maintenance only.
The commission adopted Resolution 11, approving cost-of-living (COLA) raises for FY2026, and then adopted the county’s FY2026 budget under Resolution 12 after noting a draft-year typographical error that needed correction from 2024 to 2025.
Several personnel-pay changes were approved: deputy coroner call-investigation pay was raised to $250 per incident, and ambulance crew on-call pay was set at $1 per hour for all time periods. Each of those items was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board approved moving the polling place from the elementary school to the Sunburst Community Center, located at 314 1st Street North in Sunburst, and also approved a facility-use agreement with the town of Sunburst covering election-related use of the community center from 2026 through 2031. Chair noted the site is accessible and that members of the public had requested the change.
No roll-call vote tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript; approvals were taken by voice vote and recorded as ayes on each motion. The meeting concluded with routine adjournment.
