Stillwater County approves routine minutes and claims, hears staff updates on security, communications and road operations

The Stillwater County Commission on Sept. 25 approved routine business items and received several staff updates.
The board unanimously approved the minutes from its Sept. 18, 2025 meeting and authorized claims No. 112985–113100 totaling $294,701.25. Commissioners also opened and closed a public hearing on the county Comprehensive Capital Improvement Plan (CCIP) at 9:14 a.m.; no members of the public were present to comment.
Facilities Director Chad Coles reported on Phase II plan review work (50% documents), ongoing elevator-area roof repairs and plaster repairs. He said preliminary courthouse access-control work and camera wiring are underway; Commissioners discussed conducting a courthouse security analysis and forming a safety and security committee to scope potential funding.
Chad and Disaster and Emergency Services staff noted the sheriff’s office has experienced unreliable cell service; David Stamey said a booster will be added at no cost and should improve service but will work only for FirstNet and AT&T networks. Commissioners discussed extending boosters to other county sites such as Road and Bridge.
Road Superintendent Ben McVittie presented a quote for a 20,000-gallon water tank to be filled from the Road and Bridge well to avoid purchasing water from the City of Columbus; minutes note that the reclaimer used up to $3,000 in purchased water previously. Ben also requested that plow installations for Molt, Rapelje and Reed Point crew trucks be placed on the next meeting agenda. David Stamey provided a wildland fire update, reporting more than 700 property assessments and field mapping completed; staff will next solicit homeowner survey responses.
